Operations of Ethiopia's Grand Renaissance dam to commence in 2020

Ethiopia’s water and energy minister Seleshi Bekele announced on Thursday that the country will start energy production at the Grand Renaissance dam in December 2020. The 6,000-megawatt Grand Renaissance Dam is the centerpiece of Ethiopia’s bid to become Africa’s biggest power exporter. Leaders of East Africa inaugurate Chinese-built projects in the region

Bangladeshi steel maker to open Sh6.5bn factory

Big ticket infrastructural projects including the multi-billion Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) have driven up demand for steel products in the country. One of the largest steel makers in Bangladesh is set to open a Sh6.5 billion ($65 million) factory in Kenya. Ethiopia awards 13 billion Br Road Projects to companies

The Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) awarded eight road projects out of the total nine to different companies late last week, the ninth one being won by a Chinese firm who made the highest offer to construct a 68.8Km alternative road for Limalimo. USD 1.2 billion mega housing project announced by Ethiopia for Addis Ababa

Keeping the importance of secure low cost housing in mind, plans have been announced by Ethiopia’s Federal Housing Corporation (FHC) to build 16,173 homes in the capital city of Addis Ababa at an estimated cost of around $1.2bn.  The housing will be allocated for rental houses to employees of businesses and the state officials in a 50-50 division. Kenya govt. to construct 28 km connecting highway at the JKIA

A 28 Km highway bridge is decided to be constructed by the Kenyan government, which will connect Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) with Kangemi market on the Nairobi-Nakuru highway in order to control traffic congestion in the Kenyan capital city. US $2bn integrated community development project to be constructed in Ethiopia

US $2bn has been set aside  for integrated community development project in Ethiopia's capital, Addis Ababa which will entail 4,000 apartment houses, recreation centers and three star hotels. Macro investments to boost trade in East Africa

Recent economic research and forecasts have found that investments in East African infrastructure construction are set to expand rapidly. Total infrastructure construction output in the region’s largest markets of Rwanda, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Tanzania, is expected to grow from USD 25.9 billion in 2017, to USD 98.8 billion in 2022. Rwanda registers a healthy economic growth rate: International Monetary Fund

The IMF and the World Bank have released the growth estimates for Rwanda to 7.2 percent . ABB to equip first high speed rail link in Tanzania

Construction work on road linking Kenya and Burundi complete

Construction work on the 1,545 km road linking the port of Mombasa and Burundi dubbed the Mombasa-Bujumbura highway is now complete and is set to increase trade  between the two countries.
